The Russian defense manufacturer Uralvagonzavod (UVZ) released a new video of the BMPT Terminator armored vehicle, which reignited criticism of the project.
The footage, made to promote the firepower of the equipment, showed significant shaking in the vehicle’s dual 30mm cannons during firing, pointing to weaknesses in the stabilization system and the weapon’s accuracy.
Military experts and commentators mocked the vehicle’s performance and reminded that the Terminator has been scarcely used in real combat. According to researcher Andrey Tarasenko, changes made to the weapon design prioritized aesthetics over functionality, such as the inclusion of a second cannon merely to make it more imposing. Furthermore, the armored vehicle has not proven more effective than tanks or infantry fighting vehicles already employed by Russian forces.
Despite being presented by UVZ as an essential reinforcement for modern military operations, the BMPT has a limited presence on the Ukrainian front and has already suffered confirmed losses. Analysts point out that, in practice, the vehicle combines the weaknesses of both heavier and lighter equipment, remaining vulnerable to drones and guided weapons. For critics, the Terminator seems more like a piece of propaganda than a strategic solution on the battlefield.
